
Assistant Director
Location: San Diego, CA
Hours: Full time (with some nights and weekends)
Compensation: Commensurate with experience

The Waitt Institute is working with 10+ nations and territories to create sustainable ocean plans to will help improve local livelihoods and economies while safeguarding the marine life and ecosystems.
The Assistant Director is responsible for providing core support to the Waitt Institute’s Executive Director in managing and overseeing programs and projects. The ideal candidate will have an affinity and sensitivity for working with a culturally and politically diverse community. This position will work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

Support development and management of standard operating procedures

Prepare reports by collecting and analyzing information

Conduct project research, planning, and coordination

Assist in budgeting and operations management
Qualifications
Required

Strong project and process management skills and incredible attention to detail

Ability to manage time efficiently and keep track of and prioritize amongst many tasks

Stellar writing, editing, and general communications skills

Independent, motivated, and flexible in response to changing assignments

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Preferred

Experience working with foundations and nonprofit organizations

Experience with ocean conservation and management programs and policy

Experience in data and systems management
