Media & Communications Associate 

           

Location: San Diego, CA 

Hours: Full time (with some nights and weekends)

Compensation: Commensurate with experience

You will be joining a team of international experts working around the globe to protect the world’s oceans. The Waitt Institute is working with 10+ nations and territories around the globe to create sustainable ocean plans to will help improve local livelihoods and economies while safeguarding the marine life and ecosystems. 

 

We are looking for a social media and communications expert to join our dynamic team based in La Jolla, CA that will help to build a global brand, improve storytelling across our sites, and engage a community of followers. You will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about ocean conservation in a small, fast-paced, and variable work environment.

 

Like to travel? This position might include international travel on short notice.

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and grow community across social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) through content creation

  • Design and edit materials such as flyers, posters, fact sheets, etc.

  • Manage content including video editing and file organization

  • Update website

  • Travel may be required with little notice

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, graphic design, media  or related field

  • Experience managing and building following through social media platforms in a professional setting

  • Proficient using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office

  • Excellent copywriting and editing skills

  • Flexibility to respond to changing assignments

  • Excellent time and project management

 

Preferred

  • Experience with full Adobe Suite (InDesign, Premiere)

  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience

  • Demonstrated record of non-technical publication

  • Knowledge about science and policy pertaining to ocean conservation
