COMMUNITY

OCEAN
LITERACY

Blue Azores promotes ocean literacy among the education community, the fishing sector and other local groups.

Through the Educating for a Blue Generation program, activities in schools and sessions with fishers, it shares knowledge about the Azores Sea and helps people understand its importance to life on the islands and their future.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND MOBILISATION

Blue Azores creates opportunities for communities to take part in the conservation of the Azores Sea.

Public sessions, workshops, gatherings and documentary screenings encourage dialogue and the exchange of different perspectives on the ocean. The program also supports coastal and underwater clean-ups, bringing citizens, schools and organizations together to help protect it.

CAPACITY BUILDING
FOR CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS

Around 50 Azorean organizations work with Blue Azores on awareness-raising, environmental education and coastal clean-ups.

The program supports joint initiatives and helps these organizations take part in national and international events, strengthening their capacity to act. The Convention of organizations for a Clean Ocean (COOL) and the COOL Academy offer opportunities to share experiences and develop skills.

BLUE VOICES

The sea has shaped the history, culture and way of life of the Azores. Blue Voices gives a face and a voice to Azoreans’ connection with the ocean.

Since 2021, the series has shared stories from fishers, artists, teachers, researchers and other members of civil society. Their experiences reveal different ways of living with and valuing the Azores Sea, inspiring everyone to take part in its conservation.
